Youth Drug Addiction

Drug abuse is particularly characteristic for modern society. Drugs are no longer happening elsewhere and to some random people, it is here among us. Medical experts claim that none of the drugs is harmless, referring to severe mental and physical health consequences.

The fatal popularity of marijuana Among young people, there are more and more tobacco, alcohol, and drug users. An increasing number of drug addicts is particularly alarming. This phenomenon and how it affects the society in which drug addicts are found can only be suppressed by a well-organized prevention and action, getting to know the wide population of drugs and its harmful effects on society. Drugs are conquered by young people, the lower age group drops down, and in addition to high school students, pupils of older primary school grades are also taking it. The most commonly used cigarettes are marijuana, and its smell extends across schools, streets, and all youth gatherings. In addition, it is commonly used “stamps” of LSD and ecstasy tablets.

As already mentioned, drug abuse is particularly characteristic of modern society. This phenomenon stems from the tension that arises because of the high demands that the society imposes on the individual and the drug is taken as a means that is expected to ease the daily confrontation with problems.

Alarming spread of drug addiction Drug addiction spreads to all countries of the world. Drugs are mostly used by young people between 14 and 25 years old. They take it from curiosity, boredom, depression, the desire for adventure, the weakness to refuse the offered drug, and the lack of a stronger relationship with the family. Interestingly, in the past few years, the social structure of drug users has changed. Ten years ago, they belonged to higher social strata. Now they are mostly from the middle and lower classes.

Every drug is dangerous!

Each drug is dangerous because its action reduces the ability to work and concentration; there is perception, a tendency towards suicide and the activation of the occurrence of hidden mental illnesses. After the prolonged taking of these drugs, there is a need for “more severe” drugs, such as cocaine, heroin, and morphine. People who use drugs are drug addicts and they do not take it out of satisfaction, but for an unbearably strong urge to take and avoid severe pains. A drug addict lives in society as a parasite since he takes everything and does not give anything. His interests are related only to drugs, i.e. for how and where to get it. Parents and guardians must not think that drug abuse is a phenomenon that does not concern them, or that it is a problem of others. No family is spared the possibility of one day entering that circle. Education is not omnipotent, but its power is great. There is no cheap drug, so drug addicts often decide to sell them in order to get money, and thus commit a criminal offense. The parents’ contact with the police and the school is very important.

Prevention of drug addiction

Locating the prevention of drug addiction in the broader framework of promoting and preserving the health of young people, and relying on numerous research studies, it is necessary that school curricula include young people before certain forms of behavior are established. As risky behavior does not exist as isolated, individually, but often there is a connection between several forms, these programs for healthy lifestyles of young people should start from the kindergarten, and be continued through primary to high school.
